Trailer Roundup: Guardians and 22 Jump St

Guardians of the Galaxy First Trailer

Here's something for the nerds and the regular folks to get excited about! Marvel just dropped the first trailer for their most risky movie to date: Guardians of the Galaxy. Director Tim Gunn (Slither) has assembled a stellar cast to play the intergalactic team of outlaws: Chris Pratt (Parks and Rec) on his rise to stardom, Zoe Saldana (Avatar) in green this time, professional wrestler Dave Batista, as well as Bradley Cooper (American Hustle) and Vin Diesel (Fast 6) voicing a talking racoon and tree respectively. It's gonna be a weird movie, and I'm super excited about that.

The visuals look awesome and unlike anything Marvel has ever released before. I also loved the visual gags, and I'm sure we can expect a lot of dark humor from a Gunn film. While I'm excited for the Russo brothers' (Community) upcoming Captain America 2, after seeing this trailer, I cannot wait for Guardians of the Galaxy  to open on August 1st, 2014.

22 Jump Street Second Trailer

Sony just released a new trailer 22 Jump Street, the sequel to their commercially and critically successful reboot of the 90's TV show. Two-time Oscar Nominee Jonah Hill (Wolf of Wall Street) and Six-time Teen Choice Award Winner Channing Tatum (Magic Mike) go back undercover, this time at college. The real stars of this movie, for me, are behind the camera. Directing team Phil Lord and Chris Miller are back, coming off of the success of The Lego Movieand ensuring that the franchise doesn't lose its hilarious and self-referential edge (a fate that happened to Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 when Lord and Miller only returned as producers).

This trailer consists of some footage we've seen before, but it has a really fun and quick-paced energy to it. The ending straddles the line between stale racial stereotype humor and hilarious lack of improvisational skill. While nothing so far in the trailer has looked outrageously funny, I'm holding out hope that they're saving the best parts for the actual movie. 22 Jump Street opens on June 13, 2014.
